NC State Chorale Completes Successful Tour of Ireland

The North Carolina State University Chorale returned on May 16, 2014, from a successful concert tour of

Ireland, including performances in Dublin, Galway, and Killarney.

 
Performing highlights of the trip included an afternoon concert at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, located in the

heart of Dublin, a concert for a standing-room only audience at St. Mary’s Church of Ireland in Killarney,

and a concert in the chapel of the exquisite Kylemore Abbey in County Galway, as well as participation in

an evening Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney. The repertoire included a mix of standard choral

literature, Irish music, Caribbean songs, and American folk music and spirituals.

The students toured from coast to coast of the island country, singing the NC State Alma Mater at the

Cliffs of Moher in the west, in Dublin in the east, and in several locations in between. In addition to

performing, the students were immersed in Irish culture, both rural and urban, and learned about Gaelic

language, history, and sports.

There were NC State parents and alumni in the audience at every single performance, as well as many

others from the state of North Carolina. The tour was a mountaintop experience for our students – one

they will remember for the rest of their lives.

The NC State Chorale is the premier vocal ensemble at NC State University. Dedicated to upholding the

highest standards of the choral art and the collegiate choral tradition, the State Chorale is comprised of

approximately 50 student singers, all of whom are earning degrees in fields other than music.
