NCSU High School Band Day Draws 375 High School Students from All Over US

If the halftime show at the NCSU vs. Marshall football game last Saturday seemed particularly loud in the stadium, that’s because it was. Hundreds of high school marching band students joined the NCSU Marching Band, also known as the Power Sound of the South, to deliver a rousing medley of instrumental Daft Punk songs. The performance was the culmination of a daylong event wherein the high school marching band members practiced with and shadowed the NCSU band.

High School Band Day is an annual event, but the 2017 event was one for NC State record books. Spearheaded by Assistant Director of Bands Chris Branam with support from the Department of Music and NCSU Athletics, this year’s event drew around quadruple the number of participants compared to past years. The high school musicians came from all around the United States, tallying six states from Texas to New York. Fifty-seven high schools were represented.
