A Leading Voice of the Community

Dr. Nathan Leaf, Director of Choirs at NC State, is dedicated to the art of choral singing. Alongside his work with NC State students, he has been a leading figure in the Triangle choral scene over the last decade.  His presence has now expanded further with his appointment as Artistic Director of the Concert Singers of Cary.

Over one hundred singers combine into three choirs to make up The Concert Singers of Cary. The group, now in its 27th year, has a goal of enriching the Triangle community through performing a wide array of choral music. They have collaborated with many other accomplished local groups including the North Carolina Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, the Durham Symphony, the Mallarme Chamber Players, and more.

As Artistic Director, Dr. Leaf will determine the programming, conduct the concerts, and guide the artistic presentation of the organization. His goal is to present thoughtful and balanced repertoire. “Certainly an important thing that the choir has done throughout its existence that I want to continue is an exploration of a wide variety of repertoire, including new and contemporary compositions, music that is less frequently performed, and also great standard literature,” explained Dr. Leaf. As a testament to their breadth, Concert Singers presented a Holiday Pops concert with the North Carolina Symphony, a Big Band show with the local Moonlighters Orchestra, and Messiah, Part 1 (Handel), all over the 2017 winter holidays.

Overall, Dr. Leaf says he is greatly looking forward to getting to know the “artistic spirit” of the group. “Mostly, I’m excited to be able to lead this outstanding group of singers who care very much about arts in the community.”
