The Price Music Center Lecture Series presents Anne Rasmussen, professor of music and ethnomusicology and Bickers Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at the College of William and Mary for a talk on the role of women in Islamic music performance in Indonesia.

Professor Rasmussen is a leading authority on the music and sound practices of Islam. She is past president of the Society for Ethnomusicology, and author of three books including Women’s Voices, the Recited Qur’an, and Islamic Music in Indonesia (2010). She has been the director of the William & Mary Middle Eastern Music Ensemble since 1994. Over the years, the ensemble has hosted more than sixty guest artists, has recorded two compact disc recordings, and has made international concert tours in Morocco and Oman.
