The Department of Music’s spring music minor recitals will take place on April 16, 23 and 24, 2022. They will take place in Price Music Center and are open to the public.
The performances by our music minors will also be livestreamed on our YouTube channel via the streams below. They will remain available for viewing for one week.

Ashley Williams is a senior majoring in biological sciences with a concentration in human biology. During her time at NC State she has participated in the University Scholars and Biological Sciences Honors Program. She also serves as an ambassador for the College of Sciences. After graduating in Fall 2022, she plans to apply to medical school to pursue a career as a physician. Ashley has participated in multiple ensembles over the last few years. She has played with the Wind Ensemble and Raleigh Civic Symphony. She even performed during a Jazz Ensemble concert that required flautists. In the fall she will complete one final semester of Wind Ensemble before graduation.
Jiovanni Ortiz-Anglero is a junior from Raleigh, NC studying computer engineering. He attended Leesville Road High School where he was a member of the Symphonic Band and acted as the drumline captain and percussion section leader. During his time at NC State, Jiovanni has been a member of the Wind Ensemble, Marching Band and Pep Band playing percussion, bass drum, and drum set respectively. Jiovanni plans to graduate next year with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and plans to return to NC State for his Master’s degree.

Grayson Gall is a junior in Nuclear Engineering minoring both in computer programming and piano performance. A percussionist for most of his musical career, he decided to pursue piano after high school as he felt it would give him more opportunity to perform in the future. After his undergraduate degree, Grayson plans to pursue graduate degrees in nuclear engineering in the hopes of being able to research fusion energy. Music has always been a very important part of Grayson’s life and he plans to continue studying piano for as long he as can.
Kelly Chen is a junior majoring in Sociology, and minoring in Statistics and Music. She started learning piano at the age of six and decided to have a more professional training in college. She loves Romantic music and studied a variety of composers from the Romantic era during college. She also explored Contemporary and American music with NC State’s Raleigh Civic Symphony during Spring 2022. For her, piano brings her confidence and calm in college life, and she hopes to share the power of piano and music to everyone.

Cayce Lee is a senior graduating in May with a B.S. in biological sciences with a concentration in human biology. She has been playing the double bass for nine years and first started individualized lessons in 2019 through the performance minor. Cayce was a member of the NC State Raleigh Civic Symphony from 2019-2020 under the direction of Dr. Peter Askim, consisting of both NC State students and community members. Cayce’s post-graduation plans are to complete a Master of Physiology at NC State and apply to medical school.
Chandler James is a senior in computer engineering with a minor in drum set performance. From Charlotte, NC, he began his drumming career at the age of 11 after watching a movie called Hop, which was about an Easter bunny that plays drums. He began receiving lessons at the age 12 and learned how to play primarily in the styles of rock, metal and gospel. During his sophomore year at NC State, he joined the NC State pep band, and that experience inspired him to pursue the music minor. As a part of the music program at NC State, Chandler has participated in the jazz big band and multiple jazz combos. He also participates in an on-campus Christian organization called CRU where he serves as a member of the worship team.

Gage Fringer is a senior graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science this semester and will continue his enrollment through the Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s program to complete his Master’s degree in computer science in the coming year. He has been a part of the Marching Band, Pep Band, and Jazz Ensembles during his time at NC State, serving as a section leader for the Power Sound of the South for the past two years. Upon finishing his current academics, Gage has intentions of pursuing further graduate studies to become a professor in the field of computer science.

Samer Issa is a senior studying Human Biology at NC State. During his undergraduate studies, he has performed with the NCSU Wind Ensemble, Raleigh Civic Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, pit orchestra, and Brickyard Brass Quintet. Outside of NCSU ensembles, he has also performed with the Triangle Brass Band, serves as a music and visual instructor for high schools in the area, and is a current member of the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps.
