Davian “D.J.” Robinson, CONTRA-TIEMPO and More Choreograph Pieces for Fall Concert 2022
We are excited to announce that the Dance Program is returning to Stewart Theatre on Nov. 17 and 18, 2022, for the Dance Program Fall Concert. Tickets are on sale now!
This year’s Fall Concert will include choreography by guest artists, student choreographers and advanced dance program students—performed by Panoramic Dance Project, State Dance Company, and Independent Study in Dance students.
Student Choreographers
The event will include seven works by student choreographers, Evanna Edward, Emma Callicutt, Olivia Prevost, Drew Chavis, Madison Kotyra, Kara Pawlowski, Rachel Morris and Taiylor Wade.
Of note—as a member of the Lumbee tribe—Chavis will be using her solo to bring attention to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) movement.
In a group piece, Morris will be exploring how different Enneagram types can affect one another.
Wade’s piece is an exploration of the perception of femininity in contrast with the performance of femininity.
Davian “D.J.” Robinson
The State Dance Company will premiere a piece choreographed by local artist Davian “D.J.” Robinson who lost his sight as a child.
Robinson’s work explores dance beyond the visual dimension, and brings attention to the need to make dance more accessible and inclusive. His piece touches on the concept of inner beauty versus outer beauty, redemption, finding the true essence within oneself while discovering individuality and the overall unified beauty of nature and being.
We are excited to have Robinson working on this with our students and we cannot wait for you to see it.
