On April 27, two NC State alumni returned to the Triangle, no longer students, but now professional performing musicians.

Baritone Cole Nash (Physics and Applied Mathematics, ’20) and soprano Lucy Kimbell (Biochemistry, ’21) were vital student-musicians during their time at NC State, earning Minors in Vocal Performance as well as singing and serving as section leaders in the State Chorale. As members of NC State’s premier choral ensemble, they performed in recitals and with other local groups, including North Carolina Opera. Following their graduations, the two alumni went on to earn Master of Music degrees in vocal performance—Nash at Florida State University and Kimbell at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Now young professionals, Nash and Kimbell returned to make their Triangle debuts as soloists in Mozart’s Requiem, performed by the Concert Singers of Cary and conducted by NC State faculty member Nathan Leaf, the students’ former choral director.

“What a joy it was for us to have our former students come back to perform, now as colleagues, and we are so proud of their success!” says Leaf.
