Kathryn Mueller Faculty Recital September 19

Adjunct Lecturer of Voice Kathryn Mueller will be presenting a special performance on Tuesday September 19th in the NCSU Kennedy-McIlwee Studio Theater. The selections within Canción: Spanish Song through the Ages follow the development and influence of Spanish song. Early influences of medieval Moorish and Jewish music, the music of Spain’s renaissance Golden Age and 19th century Zarzuela, and the birth of nationalistic songs by composers such as De Falla and Turina are all represented within the program.

This performance marks the exclusive premiere of the work, which was composed by Argentinian musicologist and composer Bernardo Illari. “They are settings of poems by the great Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, so I decided to make them the centerpiece of a recital of Spanish music, which isn’t performed as often as often as it should be,” said Mueller. “It’s a really fun program that has been a joy to plan and practice.”

Joining Kathryn Mueller will be two East Carolina University Faculty Members, pianist Eric Stellrecht and classical guitarist Elliot Frank. Frank will accompanyMueller on a set of Renaissance songs as well as perform a solo set.
