The Department of Performing Arts and Technology (DPAT) is excited to introduce the Spotlight Series. Each month, the department will showcase members of the Wolfpack and how they have included dance and music during their time at NC State experience and beyond.
This month’s spotlight is on Jade Vogelsong, a rising senior from Wilmington, NC, who is majoring in statistics with minors in mathematics and music performance (voice). Keep reading to learn more about Jade and her experience as a student performer.
“Jade is a wonderful singer and a diligent leader in both State Chorale and Chamber Singers. Her work ethic, keen attention to detail and positive attitude benefit not only her own singing but everyone around her. She makes a great contribution to the choirs at NC State.”

Director of Choral Activities
Spotlight Q&A
How are you involved with the Department of Performing Arts and Technology?
I am a soprano section leader in NC State University’s Chorale ensemble and am a part of the Chamber Singers ensemble. I am also a voice performance minor entering my final semester of my minor in the fall.
What role does music play in your life?
Music is a constant part of my life. It naturally falls into my routine, whether listening to music in the morning or practicing late into the evening. I have a strict work schedule with schoolwork to ensure time to practice music or fit it into my class schedule. Music has always been a non-negotiable time for me since it brings me the greatest happiness and fulfillment.
What has been a highlight of your music experience?
This summer, I was fortunate enough to go to Italy with NC State’s Chorale ensemble. We performed sacred and American spirituals in incredibly important historic music spaces such as Saint Peter’s Basilica (the Vatican) and Santa Maria della Visitazione (Vivaldi’s Church). Performing in spaces that have been used for centuries, predating our own country, was a sacred feeling, feeling united with the present as well as the past and providing a new understanding of the importance of music and people. I am thankful to have bonded with my peers as both people and musicians over the duration of the tour. It was truly a blessed and special experience that I will be forever grateful for.
What are you currently up to?
I am continuing my internship with First Cary United Methodist Church as a choral scholar over the summer and, in my free time, making music with friends. I’m also practicing guitar and piano and starting my musical journey by learning alto saxophone.
Is there anything else you wish to share?
I am deeply thankful for the opportunities afforded to me by this department and am blessed for the meaningful relationships I will forever cherish.
The Department of Performing Arts and Technology provides opportunities for NC State students of any major to cultivate, explore, and pursue their interests in arts entrepreneurship, dance, music and music technology.
