Add a minor in music to expand your perspective, strengthen your skills and explore the role of music in society. Music Performance Minor

Overview

Develop your artistry and musicianship through the music performance minor. You’ll receive one-on-one instruction from professional musicians, perform in ensembles and recitals, and build connections with faculty and fellow student-musicians.

Through applied study and performance experiences, you’ll strengthen your skills as a musician while developing the confidence and independence to continue exploring music throughout your life.

Admission

Current NC State students can add the music performance minor through the self-service Change of Degree Application (CODA) portal. Prospective students do not need to declare the minor before applying to NC State.

  1. Choose an ensemble from the qualified electives list and complete an audition. Let the ensemble director know that your audition will also serve as your audition for the Music Performance Minor.
  2. Complete the CODA Application.
  3. Sign up for MUS 193 through the application form.

Music Studies Minor

Overview

Explore music from a variety of perspectives through the music studies minor. After completing core requirements, you can choose from more than 60 courses that allow you to tailor your experience to your interests.

Study areas include performing ensembles, world music, music theory, applied lessons, popular music, songwriting with digital audio workstations and more. Build a deeper understanding of music while following the topics that inspire your curiosity.

Current NC State students can use the self-service Change of Degree Application (CODA) portal to add the music minor to their degree plan.
