Academics

The Department of Performing Arts and Technology provides a responsive and innovative arts education in support of the diverse interests and curiosities of all NC State students. Through our courses, minors and resources for students, you can continue to study and perform now and into the future.

Take your study further with a minor

The Department of Performing Arts and Technology offers a minor in arts entrepreneurship, a minor in dance and a minor in music. The music minor has two available tracks in performance or general studies.

  • The 15 credit hour arts entrepreneurship minor prepares students to develop and grow their own arts-related ventures. The minor culminates in a capstone experience, where students work as a team to complete an entrepreneurial project for a local arts business or nonprofit organization.
  • The 16 credit hour dance minor is designed for students who wish to delve deeper into dance studies in an intellectual, creative, and practical capacity to propel them forward in career, service and artistry. The coursework is balanced between theory courses, creative inquiry, and technical proficiency.
  • The 20 credit hour music minor takes your study of music to the next level, either through the focused applied study of your instrument or exploration of your own musical curiosities. Students take four required courses in music theory, aural skills, class piano and Western music history, and an additional 12 credit hours of required courses and electives in their area of specialization.
