Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Beattie, called a “smashing success” (San Francisco Examiner) and praised for her “warmth” (New York Times) and “exuberant voice and personality” (Opera News), revels in performing everything from traditional to brand-new classical repertoire, as well as engaging in ongoing collaborations with performance, visual, jazz, experimental and theater artists.

An important voice in new American music, Jennifer has premiered over 200 new works and created roles written for her voice by award-winning composers including Lembit Beecher, Tom Cipullo, Kathryn Alexander, Jeremy Gill, Jon Irabagon, Gregory Spears, Paula Matthusen, Juraj Kojs and Konrad Kazmarek. Also a poet and composer herself, she is a regular artist-in-residence with composition and media studies programs, focusing on writing for the voice and poetry/text-setting (Yale College of Music, University of Miami, University of Georgia, Charlotte New Music). Jennifer is a founding faculty member of the New Music on the Point Festival in VT, and is a member of composer/performer duos SpacePants (w/ violist Diana Wade, Los Angeles) and So Much Hot Air (with oboist Zachary Pulse, NY). She has been a company member with Opera Philadelphia since 2012.

Jennifer has been a featured soloist with organizations including The National Opera Orchestra at the Kennedy Center; The Philadelphia Orchestra; Opera Philadelphia; the Oregon Bach Festival, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra; the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Brooklyn Art Song Society; the Dame Myra Hess Series in Chicago; and at the National Arts Club and the Park Avenue Armory in NYC. She has recorded for Naxos, Anticausal Systems, Albany Records and Irrabagast Records. She is passionate in her pursuit of singing-for-all, and enjoys teaching anyone t0 use their vocal instrument healthily and expressively.
