Annual Operating Support
No matter its size, every gift makes a difference in NC State University students’ lives. Because annual gifts are typically used soon after receiving them, we depend on ongoing support from alumni, parents, and community members. Annual giving is your opportunity to influence the department’s future year after year.
The Department of Performing Arts & Technology has four annual operating funds that you can support:
- Music Enhancement Fund – our most flexible funding for the greatest needs of the music program, its faculty, and its students.
- Dance Enhancement Fund – our most flexible funding for the greatest needs of the dance program, its faculty, and its students.
- Marching Band Fund – annual funding for the needs of the marching band, including equipment, travel, uniforms, and more.
- A Cappella Enhancement Fund – funding to support the six student-led A Cappella groups affiliated with the music department: Acappology, Chordination, Grains of Time, Jawaani, Ladies in Red and Wolfgang.

Scholarships
In a highly competitive recruiting environment for the best and brightest students, many talented students seek a school where they can pursue their chosen field of study and continue to dance or make music. As the costs of higher education rise, it has become increasingly difficult for students to continue participation in music ensembles and dance companies throughout their academic careers at NC State.
Your gift in support of renewable scholarships for recruiting and retaining new dance and music students would benefit the department in two critical ways. First, scholarships show prospective students that they can continue to explore their talents by participating in our programs while pursuing any major at the university. Second, by mitigating some financial concerns, renewable scholarships increase the likelihood that students stay involved in music or dance both here and for years to come. Students who remain in an ensemble or company throughout their college career also provide a valuable leadership role in the group, which raises the quality of performances and enhances every student’s experience.

Music Technology
Industry and job demand in music technology have steadily risen over the past decade. In keeping with the mission and goals of NC State University, the Department of Performing Arts & Technology seeks to develop expanded curricula in music technology that will help prepare the industry’s future innovators and expose students early to emerging trends in the music industry.
The Department of Performing Arts & Technology is uniquely positioned to support the needs of the field of music engineering technology. In collaboration with colleagues across campus in areas such as the College of Engineering and the College of Design, the music faculty has a rich history of developing interdisciplinary coursework that explores music in the context of other disciplines.
The department is currently equipped with three digital audio workstation labs and one 24-station computer classroom equipped with a variety of music software and a reduced version of the larger digital audio workstation labs at each station. The department also expanded its outreach efforts by offering a music technology summer camp for middle and high school students.
